...For every one

...Update:   06/12/99

Steinberg's LM•4 VST Plug-In can be not only all the drum machines you every wanted, its timing is measurably better than any MIDI controlled device*, and it might even replace an expensive sampler in your setup!

Whether you use MIDI notes to trigger samples or MIDI Clock to drive a Drum machine, its timing is potentially 40 times* better than any MIDI controlled device. LM•4 is a virtual instrument Plug-In that appears on the computer screen, you seem to be sending MIDI events to it, and its audio outputs are routed directly into the VST host's internal audio mixer, ready for adding EQ and effects. There are no messy MIDI or audio cables.

LM•4 is supplied with 20 sound sets of stunning quality, each containing at least 18 drum sounds but you can build your own kits from any standard 16- or 24-bit AIFF or WAVE files even with velocity layers. Ten of these, produced by the well known (:wizoo:) sound designers bring 24-bit sound quality even to 16-bit applications.

LM•4 has both stereo & 4 individual outputs. Each drum pad is polyphonic for a natural sound that doesn't cut off on each drum hit. LM•4 allows all its tunings and levels to be automated and saved with the host application's song.

What's more? Up to eight LM•4 can be started on the same machine depending on RAM and CPU resources. You could have one performing the back-beat with a power rock drum set while a little Latin-spice could be added by another.

With all the samples there are on Samples CDs these days, LM•4 is like having every cool drum machine on the planet, but with timing accuracy even the best of today's beat boxes would have difficulty matching.

* compared with two MIDI note events sent one after another on the same MIDI port, a 960µS delay, event positioning is calculated to sample frame accuracy, giving a raster of 22.7µS at a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz.

Reviews:

- rHAA ca tue grave. Il faut un pc rapide, mais via les effets direct-x et les outils vst ca remplace toutes les b-a-r! Dommage que chaque LM-4 chargée ne dispose que de 6 sorties.©

- got no latency problem with lm4 and dsp factory...
